Week with Eric's Parents

Eric's parents were here last week and I thought it was time that I posted the pictures from the trip. Mike and Cathy arrived on Saturday with just enough time to eat dinner which Eric made and then rush off to the Saturday Evening Session of Stake Conference. On Sunday (which was Easter Sunday, and the second one in a row that Eric's parents have spent in Iowa) we went to Stake Conference and then we went to my parents house to dye Easter eggs and enjoy the day. We also did pictures of the "kids" in their Easter clothes.

Isaac loved dyeing Easter eggs but due to the issue of age and permanent dye we let him have an egg and a cup with water in it.

Eric wanted special egg dyeing kits so we bought him Star Wars and Marvel comics themed kits. I got a Disney Princess kit. The best part was the fighter that Eric made with an egg.

on Tuesday we headed out for Kansas City. Eric and his dad had never seen the church history sites there and it had been a long time for me and Eric's mom. We stopped first at Adam-ondi-Ahman. There wasn't a lot of green yet but it was still a beautiful area.

Our next stop was Haun's Mill. This truly was out in the middle of no where. The worst part was someone had hit the sign almost knocking it over. With how perfectly lined up the tire tracks were in the mud it almost look deliberate. Haun's Mill will always be an example of why it is important to follow the counsel of the prophet. Also that faith can do anything.

On our way into town we saw the turn off for the Far West Temple site so we pulled a u-turn and went on an adventure to find it. The corner stones are still in place and it is amazing to see the amount of faith and perseverance the Saints had to keep building and rebuilding their lives over and over.

On Wednesday we headed to Independence and Liberty Jail. I was really touched by what the Sister Missionary in Liberty Jail said, "Heavenly Father was able to teach Joseph things here that he couldn't have learned any where else." I thought about that comment and how so often we learn things because of where we are at in life that we couldn't learn if things were easier. It was one of those moments were I was remembering something I already knew more than learning something new.

We visited the Harry S. Truman Library and the Kansas City Art Museum, ate at a couple of really good restaurants, some okay restaurants, stopped in Omaha on our way back to go to the temple and eat in the historic Market district. It was a great trip with lots of memories.
