I think at some point we have all been uncomfortable in our own skin, and then we look at fashion models at see that they are so thin. There is always talk about how this affects people etc etc etc. I found this article from the Washington Post about the size of models in the fashion industry.
I agree that if we, as a nation, continue to become more obese and ask models to follow suit than we are projecting an equally unhealthy image.
